Question 1: (a) List two reasons why teens are reluctant to call helplines despite the promise of anonymity and professional help. (b) According to Ms Lily Chu, how does Touvh Leadership and Mentoring prefer to help troubled teens? - (a) There is not enough helpline and there do not like to talk to stranger - (b) It is more effective and direct and this can educate student who are in the stage of facing problem to solve their upcoming problems Question 2: Have you confided in your friends or family members about the problems you face in school/life? Why or why not? Have you been betrayed by your friends before? If yes, how? ( You may change the names of the people involved for privacy ) - No. There is not much problem in school or in life. But what i face was because of stress. I just couldnt get if off from my head. But apart from that, i have nothing to be worry about. I know that stress affects many people in life that they commit suicide and all. But to me, it's such a silly matter. Just because of stress, they want to die. I mean, they can do other things that are stress-free. Like watching the television for awhile. That will release some stress. Well, for me. Well, to me, i havent had any rumors about me from my friends. I think. But if they do, it will not be too serious. Teenagers are like that.hen they do not like that person, they will talk bad stuffs about them. But when things are clear and alright between them, they will stop having rumors. That's life. People will get through this. It's just a challenge in life. We have to be patient and understanding. That's what i think. So, i guess, it's just a game in life whether you can handle it or not. Question 1:(a) What are the 4 rules for religious harmony? (b) In your opinion, how can we maintain a common space in schools? - (a) The first rule is ''All group have to exercise tolerance and restraint"which means thats rules apply on one group cannot come with law that are enforced or everyone. The second rule is "Keep religion separate from politics" which means do not mix religion issue with that politics example "mr lee cited the recent Iranian presidential election which was fiercely contested where is the outcome of disputed by the supporter of President Mahmod Ahmadinejad and the leading rival candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi and where both side invoked Islam in thier support. The third rule is Government must remain secular and the fourth rule is Maintain the common space that all Singaporean share. - (b) Respect all religion like how you respect to yourself. and the most important thing is not to make fun of other races culture or tradtionals as this will cause fights and everything. Even riots ! When you are angry at the person who make fun of your religion, just stay calm and take a deep breathe. Don't start a fight as it will be a bad idea. Question 2: Do you respect other religions? Why or why not? What do you think of children who stay away from their parents' funerals because they believe the traditional rites are against their new religion? - Yes, I really respect other religious. The reason is I love to mix with different kinds of religion and also exploring different types of cultures. From this easy steps and actions, we are able to make new friends from other religion. And I like making new friends. That is my type of person. But the person must respect other religion too. Sometimes jokes can be hurtful like joking about the skin colour. This maybe a small joke but it really hurt some people. And i really do not like that. I respect of other religion is also because that we are living on the same planet but different races. If we do not respect them, this will cause lots of riots and i hate that. It really annoys me. I want the planet to be riot-free. I think that they are rude. Doesn't mean that they change the rule, doesnt mean that they can't visit their parents. I mean, it's their parents funerals for crying out loud. They have to be fair. Thursday, August 20, 2009

At the end of the day, i will feel good about myself as i know i have done the people proud and also myself because i took the time to help the people. Some people just volunteer for the sake of volunteering or they are forced too. But for me, i helped and volunteered because i cared for the people and i really do. It makes me realise that i have to appreciate what i have now and not let it go. Cherish every moment and every second of my life. We need to get our hearts into it then we volunteer and help the people. We must feel the enthusiasm when we volunteer. That is volunteering ! Straits Time Reflection 13

Question 1:(a) What are the two worrying trends about drug trafficking mentioned in the article? (b) Why are Singaporeans increasingly being used as "drug mules"? - (a) The two trends are more teenager as young as 14 and women are caught in drug trafficking & the dealers are using Singaporean to traffic drug from one country to another or from other country to Singapore. (b) The reason is that Singapore do not need a visa for many places and they also less likely to be checked as Singapore got a reputation of being tough on drugs Question 2: What will you do if you find out that one of your friends is selling drugs? How will you react if someone tries to sell you drugs? - I will first ask what's his or her problem and if he/she is selling drug then i will try to convince my friend not to because it is a very danger thing to do. Some people are doing this kind of silly things just because they need the money or they want to earn some money. I will tell my friend that are many ways to earn money but not selling drugs. I will then talk about the consequences about selling drugs if they get caught by the police. They will sent to jail or either be fined thousands of dollars. This will affect his/her life as it will leave a bad reputation and also bad memories. Then, i will make him go councelling to get his mind of drugs. That's the best thing you could do as a friend. The consequences are : - For adult is hanging - teens is caning and jailed up to 15 years - for girl is jailed for up to 15 year - bad company as drug trafficking need to mix with the gangster or drug abuser - control by the leader as a drug mulers - take up drug too - bad for health I will say NO to them as i know what is right and wrong. I know the consequences of taking drugs and if they keep asking to take the drugs, i will either ignore them and walk as fast as i can or call the police as it is wrong to sell drugs. It is a criminal in Singapore. Who knows, if i take drug, it will make a huge impact of my life. Life will not be easy when you take drugs. Straits Time Reflection 12

Question 1:(a) Why is it easy for burglers to break into stalls at the two markets in the Kallang area? (b) What is the Geylang East Central Merchants' Association going to do about the break-ins? - (a) The two market at the Kallang areas was an easy target for burglers to break into because the units are open at the top, leaving it exposed to the thief. The other problem is that the stall holders always like to keep the money in the stalls thinking that it would be safe and that attracts thieves. Nowadays, these thieves are really smart on how they steal eventhough Mdm Chen, a stall holder had already install a metal bar connecting over the front but the thief is also easy to steal her money by tying a raffia string to a basket and lowering it into the stall.they use a broom to sweep the coins scattered on the floor which the then hoist. (b) Well, the The Geylang East Central Merchants' Association had a meeting and also had a torch with the relevant authorities, like the NEA and also the Town Councils to look about improving the security possibly by modifying stall layout and also the design. Hawkers are also advised not to leave valuables in their stalls and to buy insurance to guard against theft or equip their stalls with additional security features like grilles . Those stallholders who wanted to be more safer by putting additional feature like the frilles are free to do so. By dping this, they have to pay $16 to the administrative and also paying a reinstatement deposit before work start. Question 2: What do you think should be done to tighten the security of the markets? What do you think of the burglars who brazenly break into the stalls? - To my opinion, i suggest the stallholders to install a CCTV to prevent the thiefs from stealing anything from any stalls. This will reduce the amount of thieves. They can also put a grill on the wall as there will be no ceiling or anything to do with the pipes or metal bars running along the wall. The police also plays a part and they can patrol the place every night once or twice so to ensure some safety. The stallholders play the most important job, and that is to ensure that no valuables or some money are to be kept in their shops. I think that this is the responsibilties of the owner of each stall. They should not keep all their valuables in their stalls. This is why there were many cases of theft. It's becuase they saw the money. That's why. And before leaving their stalls, the stallholders should double check whether their shops are locked tightly. That's important! To me, thieves are people who have no life and no money. They just gave up their life and turn to evil like stealing. They should know that it's a criminal to steal. They should no better. The thieves are selfish and self-centered. They only thought about themselves and not others. Sure, i understand why they are stealing but there is always another way of getting money rather than stealing right? I know that some poeple are too lazy to get their own or earn some money but isn't it worth it rather than risking your lives because of stealing. This would affect their entire life and also their family. They have to think twice before doing something stupid. And when someone knows that they stole once, people will look down on you and think badly of you. Same goes to me, i will think that the person have no reason of stealing ! Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Question 1:(a) Why is cheerleading an expensive sport? (b) What makes cheerleading such a tough sport? - ( a) Well, cheerleading is very an expensive sport to me as the students have to pay $100 to $400 each for the tailored costumes and each new competition season. The prie depends on the material and amount of embroidery for the costumes. Some teams hire them from Thailand. Now that is expensive. Not only that but they also have to pay $50 per session for their gymnastics classes and worshops. Usually, it is weekly for an hour-and-a-half. Some coaches make it compulsory for the whole squad to attend. The tights are usaullay costs from $2 to $25. These are bought from fashion outlets like This Fashion or even imported from Thailand too. The training mats are also important for the team to practice. It costs about $50 per piece. The number of mats used for competitions are 144 pieces. Kaepa brand gymnastics shoes are also needed. It is imported from the United States and Taiwan which costs $90 to $150 a pair. Nutritional supplements and vitamins which cost $50 to $130 per bottle. When practicing, there will be injuries so their medical insurance are costs $30 to $100 per person. But mostly civered by schools and organisations. Lastly, the hair products. It is very important during the competition. It cost about $50 for a team per competition. But hair accesories are not included. Overall, it is EXPENSIVE! (b) They need to train at least twice to five time a week, for at least four hour a day. They are easily injured their self. They also needs a hefty financial.Although they got medical insurance of $30 to $100 but it might not enough if they injured themselves seriously which cost about $1000 to $10,000. Question 2: What is your opinion of cheerleaders? If given a chance, would you join cheerleading? Why/ why not? - My opinion about cheerleading is quite interesting and curious how they made their excellent moves! I mean their dancing and gymnastics are so flexible and i could not even do that well, except for some that i could do. But their steps are so much more proffesional. They are an inspirational to me as they persevere till the end no matter what. They sweat, had lots of injuries but still they put their hearts into it and focus on the important thing which is winning the competition. That's so amzaing. Many people thinks that cheerleading is girls waving pom-poms and screaming like mad women and bimbos. But they are so wrong. They require lots of teamwork to get the stunts done. They put their hardwork into it. They put in hours of practice several times a week, neverminding the blood, sweat, tears that takes to perfect each high flip, lift abd tumbling stunt that is part of the routine. People also thinks it is easy and all just for fun but it is totally not! WOULD I JOIN? Well, I will definitely will not join cheerleading no matter how exciting and wonderful it may be. To me, we have to fork out lots of money in order to join the cheerleading squad. I mean, if i'm rich than i will join but i'm definitely not rich. I don't have the money and also cheerleading is not my favourite thing to anyway. So why do things that you are not interested in. And also join without putting our hearts into it. There will definitely be lots of injuries and I am a little bit afraid of heights. So, joining the sheerleading will never happen. Straits Time Reflection Week 10

Question 1:What are some of the problems involved in separating a conjoined twin? - The poblem was that three of the conjoined twin died during the operation while the other one was lucky enough to be alive but was not in a good shape. The risk of the operation was very risky even if both or one survived it might have serious brain problem for the rest of the life. The latest report of conjoined twin was rated 50;50 that one will die while the other one will be saved. For the three twin in the article wrote that only one operation was succeeded with both twin but not in the good shape. One of the twin mentioned that one of the twin died and the other had serious problem. Question 2: If you were a part of a conjoined twin, would you rather stay together with your twin for the rest of your life or would you risk both your lives to go for an operation? Why? I would firstly ask for my twin's opinion whether to go risk our lives to go for the operation. After that, i would tell my twin what are the consequences if we were to go for an operation. I he says no, then i will have to respect his/her decision. But if he/she says yes or ask me to choose, i would rather risk both of our lives and to redeem our freedom. WHY?
The reason why I want to risk both of our lives for an opration because technologies are very good and even if we both die or one of us die, I will not blame anyone else. We are the ones who make the decision. Even if it means losing our lives, we still try our best and persevere till the end. But it is still the best thing if we both of us survived during the operation. By doing this, it proves that Singapore doctors are really good at this and also increase the reputation of the doctors. Question 1:What are big companies doing in order to be more socially responsible? - They do not cut down on their Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) who is one of the so -called project of being socially responsible. They wanted to save the environment. They are making Live Funds. McDonald also make sure they do their part. They makes sure that their food is safe. They also make sure they they did not buy beef or other food originating from the rainforest's land or recently deforested rain forest. For DBS they help this by sending their staff embarked over Asia. This includes teaching the children over there and build basketball court in some rural areas. Question 2: How important it is to be socially responsible? And do you think it is still possible to make a social impact during the recession? - I think that it is very important to be socially responsible because without it, the company will surely not earn any money. If there are more socially responsible people, it will make a hude difference. People will buy things from the company. If there is not any, the comapny will fall and would loose their jobs. If the company has more responsible people, not only in work but also in environment. This will really affect the people. People will get ill because of the toxic that they use. Yes. If everyone do their jobs properly like giving money to the poor, the cutting down of trees and so on. If we really take care of ourselves and our family, there will be lesser amount of people getting sick. This is really make a big difference eventhough it is just a samll thing to do. But NO! We should cooperate with each other and make our lives better. We should solve the problem immediately and not delaying it or it may get worse. The financial crisis is gettign worse so we should do about it and do it better. We must help our country or else our country will be budget. Thursday, April 16, 2009

Question 1: What are some of the things that schools in Singapore are doing in order to take care of the environment? - Some of the things that school in Singapore are doing to take care of the environment is asking their students to bring electricity bills from home to track their month-to-month energy use and are teaching them to save energy . They learn how to track electricity bills and learn about energy and environment during social studies and science lesson . Students from Commonwealth Secondary get to test how clean the treated water is and study the wetland's plants and animals . Five of the students from Lakeside Primary School aims to take part in such excercise. Question 2: Do you think one person's effort in reducing, reusing and recycling will make a difference in saving the environment? What steps have you taken in the effort to save the earth? - No. One person would help but it is not enough to save our planet Earth. Some people say that every person counts. We need more effort and people to contribute in reducing, reusing and recyling than it will make a huge difference. We need millions of people to contribute not one. The lesser the people contributing, the lesser time to save the Earth. We need more people so that the source will last longer and the environment will be more clean. This could protect us from global warming, drought and the ozone layer is getting thinner by a minute. Even a litter could cause a big difference. It really appreciates us even if we do the tiniest things such as picking litters, recyling things and even smoke. There more than enough people to save us from all the disasters if all of us are cooperative enough to reducing, reusing and recycling. We can stop the ozone layer from becoming thinner if we all play a part and do the right thing. Here are the steps :
I also recycle the newspapers, cans, plastic bottles. Sometimes, i can reuse them such as the can. I can make it into a pencil holder or even pens. I also do not litter on the ground especially on the water as that will be more worse. There are many ways to save the enviroment. I would switch off my fan and lights when not in use. So Save The Environment (STE). That is what I create.

Qyestion 1:How does the treatment programmes of the Singapore Prison Service help sex offenders? -It helps to change their attitudes and behaviour towards sex offences and their history . They will learn about the way they think and how their action flow from this , so it will help them to choose not to commit sex offences when the urge arises again . It also teaches them empathy to realise their victim are "more than just a face" . They will now know what to do the right thing and what not to do that is the wrong thing. They will also have some faith in themselves after this treatment and have trusts in themselves too.. Question1: Do you think that sex offenders should be given a second chance in the society? State your reasons? - Yes. I think that they should be given a second chance eventhough what he did was unforgettable and unforgivable. Everyone have second chances so why not the sex offenders? They are just like us, A Human Being! So why not?! I think if they do not have second chances, it is unreasonable. They also have families that care for them eventhough they are that way. If we do not give them chances, they will not have life and happines. They will be forever depressed and unhappy of what they did. If we do not help them, who knows what they will do? They will not be able to stop their habits. So we need to support, help and also care for them too. If we do this, it would change thier lives forever eventhough it is the little tinest thing we do. They will have start to believe in themselves again and have faith in thme too. This will really help them to move on with their lives and to forget the past. But if they repeat the criminal offence then that is another story. But what I'm trying to say is that we should help one another live a happy lives. We all should be more understanding about how they feel. Trapped inside the prison and behind bars. Try to yourselves in their shoes. Fell what they feel. Everyday living their lives without seeing the sunlight. That is very horrible. So, i think we should give them a second chance! Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Man and beast face off in Sumatra Question 1: What is illegal logging? -Illegal logging is harvest, transportation, purchase, sale of timber , which is against the law . Question2: What can you do to stop - I will go to the country and try my best to educate and explain to them that illegal logging is against the law and it is harmful to the environment if they continue this. It will harm the animal living there such as the sumatram tiger. I will also play my part by not following them doing the same thing. One people makes a difference. Imagine millions of people doing the illegal logging and it really destroys the natural habitat and the animals living there will die as their homes are destroyed. I can tell the people not to follow their wrong doings. It will not only harm the animals but the people living on earth too. If they cut the trees, there will be less oxygen for us to breath as trees give in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. That tells us that the trees are important for our habitat. Then, the animals will be extinct. If we all could just do our part in protecting the environment, that will be improvements.

Question 1: What are the different forms of Ketamine? - The different forms of Ketamine are powder , liquid and tablet form and also known as K , Special K , Kit Kat and Vitamin K. Question 2: What would you do if you knew your friend took Ketamine? - Well, firstly, i would ask my friend why he or she took Ketamine as there might be reasons of doing it. Then, i would tell them that it would harm their body and most importantly their future if they continue to do take Ketamine. Not only Ketamine but other drugs WILL ruin their furture. It can cause many things such as elevated blood pressure, experiencing hallucinations, problem sleeping, unable to move and others. All this could affect their studies and when they get caught, they will be sent to jail. If he or she do not care, i would immediately report to my friend's parents telling them that their child is taking Ketamine. I would also seek a counsellor for my friend to stop taking Ketamine. If I do not do this promptly, my friend will be addicted and for me, i want my friend to have a good furture ahead of them and not the jail. And this will also embarassed their parents. So, taking Ketamine and drugs are dangerous.

Getting to the heart of Total DefenseQuestion 1: In the last line, what did the writer mean by suggesting that "he may have found more porcupines that rats?" - The writer means that the word 'porcupine' redfers to the people who are brave and courageous to face some challenges and the word 'rat' means that there are some people who are weak and scared to face the challenges. So the phrase means that the writer found more brave and courageous people this year in the Singapore Total Defence platoon. Question 2 : What's worth giving up your life for? - The worth of giving up my life is that I can save and protect my beloved country from all dangers. Imagine if no one is brave enough to defend our country. It will be a disaster. If not us, then who will? It would be an honour if we have a chance to defend our country. This shows that the people who gave up their lives to save our country are brave and honourable. They did not gave up easily and not cowards. For me, I will never give up and persevere till the end until i succeed. It would mean everything to defend my country because this is where I was born and where my memories will always be kept in this country. This is where i belong and nothing could seperate my country and me. I will fight for this country. Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Question 1:Why Coral Secondary School forbids students to idle around near their school in their school uniform? - Coral Secondary School forbids students to idle around near their school in their school uniform because their principal Veronica Ng said that Coral Secondary places much emphasis on inculcating in their students good habits like using time prudently . Question 2: Do you agree with this rule? Explain your answer. - Well , I'm neutral . Sometimes i feel that the rule is very ridiculous. I'm not being rude but it is not fair to those who are innocent. Just because of one person who caused truoble , the whole school is in misery right now. Look how selfish the people is. He or she should be ashammed or maybe it was a group. But whoever they were , they should be ashammed of themselves. The parents will be very unhappy and annoyed about this . The students will have to come back home to change their clothes and then can go to somewhere else . This is very tiring for them and they are also wasting their money. But on the other hand , the rules are quite acceptable to me because this shows that the school show cares to the student as they do not want them to get hurt or anything bad to happen. Beside loitering outside and have fun , they can spent that time to studies and do some revision. They also must learn to spend their time wisely. They also did this rule because they do not want a bad name for their school or people looking down at them. That will be terrible. They will loose face. Friday, February 20, 2009

Question 1:What was Jack Neo's vocation when he was serving the nation? - He is an infantry officer and also a quatermaster . Then he got posted to the Army's Music & Drama company . He did part-time acting, emceeing , singing & comedy skits on TV and Live Theatre . Question 2: "Hard work leads to success" . To what extend do you agree with this statement? - I think that this statement is the key to success . It is true that when we workhard to our limit, we will definitely succeed in everything that we believe in . Workhard has lots of different meaning such as perseverance , not giving up in what we believe in and most importantly is we must have faith in us . Our attitude plays a part as well . If we work hard but then the attitude is bad . What for we workhard? The way we speak , the way we do our work shows our own attitude . If we have a bad attitude , we can say goodbye to our dreams and hello garbage man . But then if we are not smart but we work as hard as we can , like Jack Neo , eventhough he scored 21 points for his "O" Level and did not qualified for JC or Polytechnic or even ITE . But still , he workhard and now he became one of the most popular actor in Singapore . We must say ' I CAN DO IT ! ' to show we have perseverance and not let the opposite way let us down . There are no failures , it is just that you have to concentrate and do not say ' I am stupid ' . That will surely let your energy down for sure . All that matters is that we can succeed and we all are not failures ! Thursday, February 5, 2009

Golfers, youths in brawl on green .Question 1: How did the teenagers trespass into Singapore Island Country Club? -They were taking a walk in the forested are near MacRitchie Reservoir , after drinking , they cannot find their way out wandered onto the golf course . This is how they end up trespassing into Singapore Island Country Club . They were drunk . Question 2: Is underage drinking correct? Explain your answer. -No , that is surely the correct answer for me . For me , it is harmful for youngsters to drink alcohol . Many unexpected things can happen to the youngsters . Alcohol is addictive and it is hard to stop . It might take even years to stop . Drinking is dangerous as it can affect our lungs , liver , stomach and other parts of the body . It can even cause cancer if you are a heavy drinker . We can also die from from drinking alcohol too much . But the worst thing is , it can kill the brain cells . It is so effective . Better be safe then sorry . Just like what i say , it is just like a drug and people can easily get addicted to alcohol . We have better things to do then just drinking till we are totally drunk . The youngsters might regret of drinking because when they are drunk , they may do anything that is harmful to us or even themselves . For example , when they are totally drunk , they cannot walk properly and they might get hit by a car when they are crossing the roads . They might do stupid stuffs without thinking when they are drunk . Well , that's it for me . And remember , when you drink , don't drive . And for the youngsters , think twice . Think about the consequences when you drink alcohol . |
